[fanart] the bravest little hobbit of them all
I think I've said before that I've been in a "Tolkien situation" for many years now, perpetuated especially by the Hobbit movies coming out. <3 I've drawn all the dwarves, but here's Bilbo!

Here are some things I've done in the past month since my last update.
I got into Bioware's Dragon Age series. This is Ser Pounce-a-lot. I love these games, and the art direction is just firing up my creative juices like woah!
This is "Horus". I was not sure which one I liked better, so you can find both available as prints in my Society6 store.
And this is the calender entry for August (for the Siggraph 2013 calender at my school). August brings to mind summer, which brings to mind water...which for me equals mermaids.

Here are some sketches for things I'm working on lately...
Designing a bomber jacket emblem for a family friend.
And a character design for a blog header, commissioned by one of my mom's friends.
I also finished another pet portrait--got to draw bunnies for the first time! Also for a family friend.
Moral of the story is, I laugh at those who say your family can't help your career. (Because I've gotten so, so many commissions from people who know my parents!)
Lastly, here's something I just started today to work on in between job hunting, commissions, and video games. It's one of those Artist With Their Original Characters pieces. I have too many characters to name, but these guys could probably be considered like, different aspects of my own self. Calypso is from the Dragon Raiders Project, Max is from Enigma, and Skye is from Enigma: Viridian.

[fanart] Brave tribute
I've been so excited for Brave since I first heard Pixar would be making a movie set in Scotland, and I was not disappointed when it came to theaters. :) I saw the midnight premiere this summer with my mom and a couple friends (which made the experience even more amazing). Honestly it's the kind of movie I would have loved to work on!
Here's my humble fanart to this lovely movie, and the step-by-step on my work (the final step is the finished product).

Cartoons
Here are a couple images that are a little different than what I normally do, but were nevertheless fun to work on.
This first one is an art test I did for a local company about a month or so ago. I ended up not getting the job, but hey, it happens.
What's going on in this scene is very complicated and probably won't make much sense; I'm not even allowed to disclose the details because it's covered by NDA.
And just recently I finished this as a commission for some friends of my parents who are friends with Eddie Basha...who is friends with former AZ governor Rose Mofford. It's a birthday gift, so I hope it's okay to post this!

D&D Art Order Challenge
Recently I decided to enter the D&D Challenge on The Art Order. I only found out about the event a week before the deadline, so I didn't have much time to come up with something, but I really wanted to try something new. My entry is for Creatures, and I chose to do a tribe cook based on pre-done character references. Creatures are somewhat out of my comfort zone, but it wasn't as hard to do as I'd thought. In fact, I really had fun. I'm going to definitely enter more of the challenges on The Art Order. :)

Life update + Here there be dragons...
Apologies for not posting in a while. I've been doing random art for people as well as personal stuff for myself, and trying to get the hang of LOTRO while polishing up a ton of animations and branding stuff for my portfolio. Less than six months until graduation!
Here's a commission I finished about a month or so ago.
And ironically 2012 is the Year of the Dragon. I did this for my school's branch of SIGGRAPH.
Hopefully my next update won't be in two months...

animation background concepts
We're doing a lip sync animation in my Digital Ink/Paint class as our final project, and this time around we were required to have a background accompanying our character. I'm using the same character I did for the walk cycles (Calypso, her model sheet is on a previous post), and since she's from a foresty area (at the bottom of a mountain), that's what I did.
The character's going to be drawn at about mid-size so you don't see her feet--unless I get told otherwise by my instructor. :B
And of course, the actual background I'm using (the first image) is a little duller than I'd like it to be normally so it doesn't overpower Calypso, but I made a couple variations just for the heck of it.

self-expression
For the Adobe Imagination Challenge.
A very vague theme, self expression. Everyone's gonna interpret it differently.
I think for the accompanying statement to this picture I wrote that while I like to surround myself with beauty (even though I don't take pains to make myself pretty), I'm more about trying to capture the best thing about an object or person--not beautifying it. I like to admire the beauty in the world around me, but I also like the simple things. I like honesty.
I was due for another self portrait anyway. The last time I did one was fall 2009. Yikes. I really should do another one, realism this time, but still in Photoshop.

[fanart] BRAVE - Merida
Just a quick doodle of Princess Merida, the protagonist of Pixar's Brave (which is due in theaters next summer, right around when I'll be graduating! Excitement!).
Her hair is fabulous.
